What is Balayage?
In France, "balayage" literally means "to sweep" — including sweeping a street or a chimney. In the hair world, it means painting color through hair so it falls in soft, natural-looking gradients with no hard regrowth line. Unlike foils, balayage is fully freehand. Your colorist reads your hair section by section and places the lightener where the sun would naturally hit. It's the technique behind every "is that her natural color?" head of hair you've seen on Instagram for the past decade.

Worldwide search interest in "balayage" has grown over 600% since 2013, making it one of the fastest-rising beauty searches in modern history. It's still considered one of the hardest colour techniques to master — most professional colourists train for years before they're trusted with full-head balayage. Some downtown Vancouver salons charge $300 – $500 for a full balayage session. Ours starts at $160 because our students are practicing the craft with real clients, supervised every step of the way — the same training pipeline that produces stylists who eventually go on to work at those downtown salons.

I've reviewed Legends Academy in the past and I'm doing it again today. My service this week was exceptional. The student did a wonderful facial and scalp massage. It was so good that I fell asleep! The students are taught to the highest standards and the instructors are top notch! This is a well managed school and if you haven't tried one of their services, what are you waiting for?
